LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
It's L.O.V.E EVERYWHERE!!
So we went to the village on Wednesday. It was an 3 hrs ride from Makindye and when we arrive at the Village all the kids keep shouting JAMBO MUZUNGOS! (Hello white people!). Remember the driver, wafu, that I mention in the previous entry? HE IS ACTUALLY A REV, Pastor Wafu!
Anyway, Environment in the the Mawanga village is so nice, roads are rocky, animal are everywhere along the roadside such as cow, chicken, chicks and sometimes ducks :) So when the car or bike drive in, we horn not because there's villagers blocking us but it the cows and chickens that's blocking the road, it seriously funny! The challenge living in the village is to deal with illnesses such as malaria, body rash, malnutrition and of course HIV that is of serious impact in Africa.
After much introduction of us to the Rowan's friends and pastor Paul and family, here we are at the HIV seminar that is conducted by pastor Wafu and his team of facilitators. There is a total of 17 Chapters that are spread across 3 days from Advocacy to compassion, leadership, church involvement, empowerment etc. According to the statistic, 300 Ugandans are infected by HIV and 170 Ugandans die of HIV/AIDS everyday. Therefore, it is essential to share and have the knowledge of HIV/AIDS. It was an open training where villagers talked openly, even the women as well (As women in Africa, esp village women are very shy and close up on such topic) about how to protect oneself against HIV/ADIS and how it can be infected. At the end of the seminar, certificates were given out to the participants but on one condition that the participants are to go out and help one person within their own community to learn something about HIV/AIDS with the witness of a Rowan Staff before they could claim their certificate.
After which, Jim, the new generation of African, because he doesn't know how to speak his country language! but he is definitely the upcoming generation that Africa need to have! He's 24 this year working in an MIC (Multi-International Corporation), mostly on multi media. He conducted a community meeting with coming up plan and direction of how to bring this village further. Fruit farming and poultry is their final conclusion and piggery farming that will come in at later part.
While the meeting is being conducted and Yvonne is over there in the meeting, I'm over at the clinic and teeth extraction is my first case! you will be amaze by how fast it can be done as compare in Singapore despite less advance the clinic technology have, Dr Elijah did it within 1min! and POOF! It out and done! Dr Elijah , Pastor Paul's Eldest Son. I'm very much inspire of how much work and focus that we both can put into for this village, the clinic need more cash flow, surgery instruments and organizing of the clinic setting. And when there isn't any patients coming in the clinic, I would be most likely on top of the Mango tree plucking mango. Check out the photo!
Radio is their way to connect to what's happening in town, so when it come to evening time we will be spending time reading bible, discussing bible content, playing card game or milking the cow and cutting down woods for cooking. At night, we will all take our chairs, sit down and look into the sky for stars! Thousands of shinny stars jam-pack the skies which you will never see in Singapore, one evening pastor Paul share with us his testimony and this sentence by him touches our heart deep down "Rowan started by tears and now even though it moving forward, we must not forget those that are still left behind"
To end this entry, I will like to share one true story that happen to one of the village family in Mawanga. It about how God's respond on your prayer if you really pray for it. This story is truly stunning. This family was once so blessed with foods and they never go hungry, while others are starving so much and this man are so proud of himself with his land-filled of foods such as casava (one of their staple food), potato, cow, chickens and beans, that he stand high up in-front of his door step shouting to GOD "Famine ~ when are you coming????!! Famine~ why don't you come??!!" According to pastor Paul, this proud man will start shouting at 6am everyday and he did this for 2 years, while he see his people in village suffer from hunger and lacking of food. Finally, after 2 years of his continuous prayer for famine to come, it really happen. his wife and Son passed away, his farm dies off and he is now really experiencing famine in his family.
So, every time we pray we should always thank God for the blessing He gives to us and count every single blessing we have! because He can give us so much and He can also take away so much from us.
Tomorrow we will be going for Watoto church service, this is a MEGA Church with a strength of 30,000 believers! Will definitely take some video and photo and upload it to the next entry! :) Continue to stay tune with us folks!
GOD bless us all !
